First Meeting of the Board of Governors of South Asia Consortium of Open and Distance Learning (SACODiL)

Secretary, Higher Education, Government of India, shall inaugurate the conference. It is being attended by delegates from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and India, said Prof. H.P. Dikshit, Chairperson, SACODiL and Vice-Chancellor IGNOU. Officials of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and SAARC Secretariat, Nepal shall also participate.
The tentative agenda items include recognition of mutual degrees in SAARC countries, to promote learner mobility, credit transfer to promote sharing of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities and development of intellectual repositories, with a view to promote open and distance learning in SAARC region.

The establishment of SACODiL was approved in 2004 in a meeting of Heads of States held in Islamabad, Pakistan and IGNOU VC was elected as the first chairperson of the Board of Governors to hold office for three years with its secretariat located in the IGNOU campus, informed Prof. S.C.
