Experient and Question Mark to Integrate Assessment/testing Software into Mobile Learning System

December 13, 2000

Stamford, CT — December 12, 2000 — Experient Technologies, provider of the anywhere-anytime Mobile Learning System, and Question Mark, provider of Perception ™ testing/assessment software, today announced a partnership to integrate their proprietary core technology solutions.

Question Mark assessment software enables educators and trainers to write, administer, and report on tests and surveys securely in Windows and Web environments. Committed to creating distributed learning environments in which multiple authors can work together, Question Mark works to ensure that its products offer seamless connections to learning management systems.

Experient’s Java(tm)-based Mobile Learning System manages asynchronous deployment and retrieval of Web-based training applications across differing client hardware, operating systems, browsers, and any network (including wireless) that supports standard communication protocols. The system enables learners to download applications from a learning management system (LMS), then disconnect from the Web and use the training applications at any time in offline mode exactly as if they were online, with full browser functionality and offline student testing and tracking. When the mobile learner goes online again, the Mobile Learning System automatically synchronizes a seamless exchange of student tracking, content updates, and course feature changes between the client and the LMS-hosted course.

By integrating the two solutions, Question Mark will be able to offer test takers, who can’t rely on continuous online access, the ability to use the Perception testing/assessment feature in offline mode via Experient’s Mobile Learning System. Then, when they go online, the system will automatically deploy their assessment results to the appropriate administrators.

“This technology integration will benefit organizations that need to administer tests to users that are disconnected from the Internet or their Intranet but need to maintain a central database of results,” said Eric Shepherd, President of Question Mark.

“Our partnership with Question Mark furthers our strategy to integrate best-of-breed Learning solutions such as Perception into our Mobile Learning System and thereby define the migration path for building a mobile learning infrastructure,” said Experient CEO Michael Glotz.

About Question Mark

Question Mark has been producing testing and assessment software since 1988, enabling educators and trainers to write, administer, and report on tests and surveys securely using individual PCs, local networks, the Internet, and intranets.

Question Mark Perception software allows people to create question files without programming experience or knowledge of HTML. Users can create multiple question banks from which to assemble tests and surveys, organizing questions into topics and sub-topics. They can shuffle questions and answers for each participant and preview sessions to see how they will appear post-deployment.

Businesses, governments, schools, colleges, and universities in more than 45 countries use Question Mark software. Typical applications include exams, quizzes, study aids, diagnostic tests, pre-course skills assessments, and course evaluations. Question Mark Corporation is actively involved with the IMS Global Learning Consortium and supports open standards.
