Elluminate Live! Delivers Dynamic Interaction for Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation

June 29, 2004

Pompano Beach, Fla. (June 14, 2004) – Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and Web conferencing solutions for the real-time organization, announced today that the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (CDLI), a division of the Department of Education, Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, has implemented Elluminate Live! Academic Edition™ to add live discussion and dynamic interaction to their asynchronous distance learning program. CDLI provides educational opportunities for a widely dispersed student population in Newfoundland and Labrador, many of whom are located in remote, rural areas where eLearning is the only option because of geographic and demographic considerations.

CDLI first selected Elluminate Live! in 2000 for its high-quality Voice over IP technology, low bandwidth requirement, shared interactive whiteboard, and application sharing. The organization used a phased approach beginning with a ten-school pilot program to implement its distance learning programs, incorporating both asynchronous technology via a learning management system and synchronous technology using Elluminate Live! in one easy-to-use online environment. Today, CDLI delivers 25 eLearning courses to 95 schools, with 7 more courses in development. Courses that require more interactivity and discussion, such as foreign languages, have a larger synchronous component, while other courses such as Social Studies, which requires a high percentage of independent reading, have a larger asynchronous component.

“During our initial evaluation, no other product even came close to Elluminate Live! in terms of technology and functionality,” said Maurice Barry, program development specialist for CDLI. “Traditionally, rural students in Canada are falling way behind urban students. Our provincial exams show that our students are doing as well, if not better, than students who experience face-to-face learning. We use a multi-tool approach to engage students as much as possible, but we would not be as successful without the synchronous component supplied by Elluminate Live! The feedback from our students is that they like the product and find it useful.”

“We are extremely excited to help the CDLI add a synchronous eLearning environment for its students and teachers, regardless of where they are located,” said Maurice Heiblum, Elluminate’s VP of Sales & Marketing. “At Elluminate, we are committed to the concept of live eLearning and enhancing the learning experience with state-of-the-art technology that provides a superior user experience.”
