December 11, 2003

DENVER – December 10, 2003 – eCollege(SM) [Nasdaq: ECLG], a leading provider of value-added information services to the post-secondary education market, today announced a partnership with Elsevier, a market-leading print and online publisher of health science textbooks and journals. The partnership enables faculty who teach through the eCollege System(SM) to use Elsevier’s Evolve Online Courses, which are based on the publisher’s health sciences textbooks.

“According to a recent Eduventures report, the heath sciences education market represents a promising and growing opportunity for post-secondary institutions, with enrollments in this field on the rise,” said Oakleigh Thorne, chairman and CEO of eCollege. “Our customers are offering a significant number of online health sciences degrees to meet this increasing demand, and we believe the high-quality Evolve courses will further enhance their programs, and even give them a starting point to create new programs.”

The Evolve Online Courses include interactive content, rich audio and video multimedia, and pre-made assessments. Courses can either be delivered as stand-alone online offerings or be used in a hybrid environment, combining the classroom and the Web. Courses are designed to work with specific Elsevier textbooks that are written and edited by scholars and professionals who have extensive practicing credentials, as well as research and teaching experience in their fields.

“We’ve taken the content of our renowned health science textbooks, and have adapted it for the purpose of teaching and learning online,” said Mitchell Lapides, EVP Electronic Products, Elsevier Health Sciences. “Through our partnership with eCollege, we can provide students with a flexible and engaging way to access our content, while also helping them efficiently earn the degrees they need to pursue a career in the health sciences profession.”
