E-Agenda to Present New Guidelines For Cross-Border Education

e-Agenda has announced that Ron Perkinson, principal education specialist for the International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group, will preview at the 2004 e-Agenda International Summit some important principles in cross-border education guidelines that are presently being developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Perkinson will also discuss how intensifying competition and cross-border activity challenge quality standards and expectations in higher education.

“Although the guidelines are not yet completed, I will present some important principles that are under discussion and the positive implications they can have on student bodies and cross-border provision,” said Perkinson.Perkinson will discuss the way local cultures and traditions can determine how local markets and traditional sectors operate. In addition, he will highlight how cross-border providers can overcome potential negative reactions from developing countries in regard to lack of suitability and relevance of programs developed in western countries.
