DaimlerChrysler UK Drives Training with Pathlore, John Matchett Ltd.

December 17, 2003

DCUK controls the sourcing, marketing and sales of Mercedes Benz, Chrysler & Jeep, smart and Mitsubishi Canter products in the United Kingdom. With the Pathlore LMS, DCUK’s 360 owned and franchised retailers can view training courses, book places and track individual training histories via an Intranet for the first time.

DCUK Dealer Training and Development (T&D) employs 40 people and is part of the company’s Network Development Division. T&D provides, along with a group of contractors, technical and business skills training to a dealer network of around 12,000 staff as well as to customers. The department delivers over 25,000 delegate training days per year from a portfolio of more than 200 courses, including technical training, sales skills, product knowledge and driver training.

A pan-European IBM survey released last year on the future of car distribution says that reforms to the Block Exemption Regulation (BER) – the European Union directive governing car sales and servicing – could prompt an industry-wide shake up for franchised auto dealer networks. According to the December 2, 2002, IBM study, the European after-sales service and repairs market is worth approximately €12 billion.

DCUK’s requirement for improved management and reporting of training activity in response to changes in the European automotive market influenced their decision to select Pathlore’s LMS, which was supplied and supported by Banbury, England-based JML.

“We chose Pathlore’s LMS and the JML approach because of the support that the team could give us, and the speed of implementation,” said Brian Snowdon, training operations specialist for DaimlerChrysler UK. “We started the project in March 2003 and went operational with online servicing by September 2003.”

Pathlore Software and JML are currently working on a program to enable DCUK to provide assessments online to the automaker’s dealer network. “Product knowledge assessments and a 360-degree review process form part of our new sales certification program named C-Sales,” said Helen Stewart, DCUK Business Skills Training manager. “The system provided by Pathlore and JML will enable us to keep track of the gaps in skills and help us to provide training when and where it is necessary.”

“The bond between Pathlore and JML brings customers like DaimlerChrysler UK a mix of leading-edge software, financial strength and experience with training that’s unmatched by other vendors,” said Steve Thomas, president and chief executive officer of Pathlore. “That mix is why our partnership has driven consistent revenue for both companies since forging our alliance in May 2001.”

Along with DCUK, Pathlore tracks and delivers training over the Internet for BMW Canada, BMW Great Britain and Nissan Europe.
