In the fast moving eLearning and distance education environment of today major businesses and large institutions of higher education may have to rely on independent course creators to provide the necessary instructional experiences for their students or license courses that are produced by another large business or university system. Whether a course creator works in a major business, a large institution of higher education or at home as a freelancer, the question always is how to manage the course content, provide access to students who are licensed to take the course, and monitor & track appropriate usage of a course.  Troy Gorostiza who has well over two decades of experience in supporting professionals  in eLearning and distance education has recently introduced CourseContainer (CC) to resolve these issues. CC is a new system that simplifies managing course contents for course creators and providers, as well as individuals and large-scale users.

CC provides course creators the ability to have a central location to host, license and store their content.

CC is it directed to:

  1. Content creators who have materials that a company or an institution of higher education would like to use on their LMS.
  2. Businesses and institutions of higher education who have content libraries that they resell, or make available to other businesses and institutions of higher education on a regular basis.

In both instances CC allows the content creator  the ability to provide access of their courseware to their client without handing over their IP / course content, while providing the ability to set licensing requirements and track usage. Students would access a course that is served up by CC in the same manner as how they access other courses from  an LMS or other types of training management platforms.

CC also is a content licensing platform for businesses and institutions of higher education that use an LMS. Let’s say  a course creator/provider has 10 online courses that s/he wants to provide to a university that needs those courses and wants to make them available to its students on Blackboard, Canvas or D2L. The course creator and the university work out a business arrangement to make the course available to thousands of students at the university providing unprecedented access and availability to thousands of students.

The course creator would upload the courses into CC, set the licensing terms, and then send the university the packages that CC creates. These packages would then go into the university’s LMS and when students access the course(s) from the LMS they are actually coming from CC but it is transparent to the user.

Course creators never hand over their IP to the university and so they do not need to worry about intellectual property theft, or unauthorized reuse and repurpose of their course content on another system somewhere else. With CC course creators have the ability to always monitor who is accessing the content, how often the course is accessed, and on which system the content is being accessed.
