Cornell University Debuts On-Line Human Resources Management Courses Through eCornell

October 10, 2001

eCornell, the wholly owned distance learning subsidiary of Cornell University, made available today to professionals around the world an online curriculum for human resources professionals, drawing upon the expertise of Cornell University’s world-renowned School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR). eCornell will offer online workshops and certificate programs developed by thought leaders in their respective fields.

“By combining the best of technology with best-in-class curriculum, eCornell is evolving online education to new heights,” said Francis Pandolfi, eCornell’s president and CEO. “eCornell embodies the best of Cornell University’s top-rated schools in a new and engaging environment, making it possible for professionals around the world to partake in the premier education program for labor relations.”

Based on extensive research including 15 focus groups and more than 1,300 interviews, eCornell has designed an online learning system that is highly interactive and collaborative, offering learners benefits similar to those available in classroom. Leveraging Cornell University’s ILR faculty, eCornell developed courseware to teach concepts and applications using case studies, interactive exercises, simulations, role-playing scenarios and multi-media presentations.

“Through a series of research and developmental trials, we are confident in claiming that our online offering gives students not only a unique learning experience but also the ability to transfer the knowledge into real world situations,” commented Dr. David Lipsky, director of Program Evaluation and Development.

Beginning in November, eCornell is offering an online Human Resources Studies certificate program, with other certificate programs and courses slated for next year. Courses set to debut in the coming months include Human Resources and the Law, Fundamentals of Employee Benefits, Building and Managing Employee Relations and Salary Administration.

“There are over a million human resource professionals today who, because of distance, cannot experience Cornell University’s world-renowned School of Industrial and Labor Relations. But, we believe that distance should not be a barrier. Through eCornell, we have created a dynamic and interactive online forum to access the ILR School, worldwide,” continued Francis Pandolfi.
