Conference Attendees to Gain Hands-On Experience with SCT Luminis Content Management Suite 3.0

October 12, 2004

The new version is especially beneficial to less technical users, offering enhancements targeted at streamlining tasks associated with content contribution, content management, and Web site management.

Developed to manage the thousands of pages on an institution’s intranet or external Web site, SunGard SCT has tailored Documentum’s enterprise-class Web content management platform to meet the unique needs of higher education. This latest version of the SCT Luminis Content Management Suite provides content contributors, content managers, and Web site managers with convenient new tools and features that help decrease the burden on over-tasked IT departments and help them to provide more accurate, timely content for constituents.

    · Content contributors can more easily edit, format, and align content from within the Web page itself; insert tables, images, and links; spell-check; and apply pre-defined styles.
    · Content managers can use a more streamlined interface and simpler tools for managing content and workflow. They can also more easily search for information in the system and share content with other sites.
    · Site managers have new options for creating and managing sites, delegating permissions, and sharing content as a hierarchy of sites and sub-sites.

Albuquerque Technical and Vocational Institute (ATVI), New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), and the University of Nottingham beta tested the SCT Luminis Content Management Suite 3.0. They report a wide range of benefits, including more timely content postings, improved productivity, better site usage, and a more consistent “look and feel” to support the institution’s brand.

“The Luminis Content Management Suite has helped us make tremendous improvements to our content management processes as its structure makes it easy for content contributors to understand and use,” said Kelly J. Mentzer, director of computer information technology, Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute. “Using only 5 to 10 templates we are able to update and manage the massive number of pages on our site. Posting content is easier and faster for content contributors and site visitors can find the fresh and accurate content they are seeking, which encourages them to come back.”

David Murray, vice president, SCT Luminis Products at SunGard SCT, added, “As the domain of Web site content continues to shift from the IT department to the functional side of the campus, colleges and universities require Web content tools that are easy to use. This generation of the SCT Luminis Content Management Suite will help make it easier for IT teams to distribute the workload and maintain more accurate, timely, and current Web content.”

The “Web Content Management Made Simple” workshop will be held twice during the EDUCAUSE conference, once on October 20 from 11:40-12:30, then again October 21 from 3:55-4:45. Conference attendees should plan to arrive early as seating is limited.
