Click2learn to Highlight Federal Government and Military Industry Expertise and Customer Success in Annual I/ITSEC Appearance

December 3, 2003

ORLANDO, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 1, 2003–Click2learn (Nasdaq:CLKS), leader in enterprise productivity solutions, will mark its annual appearance at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), held from December 1 – 4 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL, by highlighting its strong record of working with military and government organizations to successfully educate, certify and prepare their personnel for duty.

Click2learn has helped organizations in all branches of the military, as well as local, state and federal government institutions, launch and manage large-scale training, certification and collaboration initiatives for thousands of military servicemen, officers, recruiters and government employees and contractors.

Using the industry-leading Aspen Enterprise Productivity Suite(TM) and ToolBook simulation and interactive content authoring tool, these organizations are able to create, deliver and manage critical information and learning content, gain a real-time, 360-degree view of the skills, training records and performance of their personnel and deliver information all over the world, in multiple time-zones and multiple languages, ensuring that all personnel have acquired the knowledge they need to do their jobs.

“With a constantly changing legislative and regulatory environment and complex political and economic world events, it is more critical than ever for government agencies and military organizations to be able to respond quickly and competently to these situations,” said Kevin Oakes, Click2learn chairman and CEO. “Our team of federal and military experts specializes in strategically implementing our technologies and services to meet the unique learning needs of these specific audiences, enabling them to quickly and cost-effectively achieve readiness.”

Among Click2learn’s numerous military and government customers that have successfully deployed Aspen and ToolBook to support broad-scale learning initiatives are:

he Emergency Management Agency (EMA) of the government of the District of Columbia, which uses the Aspen Learning Management Server (LMS) and Auditing module to track and report on regulated training covering the administration of emergency preparedness funds allocated by the Federal government following September 11. The EMA also uses Aspen to provide skills and competency tracking, to report on skills assessments and to automate its performance review process.

The US Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), which recently upgraded to Aspen 2.5, the latest version of the suite, to power an extensive distance learning initiative targeting a nationwide cadre of Army recruiters. The USAREC distance learning initiative will serve recruiters for both the Regular Army and the Army Reserve. In addition to using Aspen to deliver strategic content (course material tailored to career objectives such as Station Commanders, Guidance Counselors,

etc.) that will help recruiters be more productive day-to-day, the Recruiting Command also will utilize Aspen’s modular architecture to track recruiters’ training progress and to report results to the senior command.

“We consider our field recruiters to be ambassadors of the US Army to the civilian public. We expect their knowledge and skill to represent the highest quality of our organization and our personnel to new and potential recruits,” said Mr. Dennis Stillman, USAREC University Technical Lead. “Aspen provides sophisticated, scalable learning technology, which we need to deliver critical information to our recruiters nationwide to help them continue to meet their recruiting and retention goals.”

The Defense Security Service Academy (DSSA), the learning component of the Defense Security Service, which provides training in national security matters to the Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard and Department of Energy, other Department of Defense and government agencies, as well as selected foreign governments. The DSSA uses Aspen to rapidly develop and deliver security training courses and other forms of blended distance learning to its personnel, as well as supporting career advancement by enabling both civilian and military staff to fulfill requirements within specific career paths.

Royal Navy Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall, England, which represents Click2learn’s reach beyond North America to military and government entities across the globe using Aspen and ToolBook for their learning and readiness programs. RNAS Culdrose recently implemented Aspen to build and manage a curriculum to train pilots and technicians in the flight and maintenance of the Royal Navy’s brand-new Merlin helicopters.

“Click2learn rapidly emerged as an industry leader able to provide an ‘out-of-the-box’ product which would meet and exceed all our requirements. This was an important factor for us as it enabled us to manage risk and control costs,” said Simon Meridew, Merlin curriculum manager.

The Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force International Affairs (SAF/IA), which has successfully deployed Aspen to drive the new Air Force International Affairs Certification and Career Development System (CCDS), a program born out of a Department of Defense initiative that sought to address federal workforce-related challenges, including the increasing complexity of world political and military situations, a decrease in potential new personnel, and the attrition of human capital. Aspen allows the SAF/IA to create, track and manage the certification, education, training and skills development of civilian and military staff working in international affairs.

Click2learn, along with Wedgewood Consulting Group, Inc., who played an integral role as system integrator in assisting the SAF/IA to choose and deploy Aspen, will showcase the CCDS at Click2learn’s booth (#1076) at I/ITSEC conference.

Click2learn also will demonstrate Aspen and the recently launched ToolBook Instructor 2004 in its booth, as well as stage a series of presentations on best practices for deploying these technologies to successfully address a variety of business problems.
