Class.com, Inc. Announces Spanish 2 Courses

February 6, 2004

“Congratulations to Class.com for the release of Spanish 2B,” said Judy Fowler, president of Holt. “Holt’s many years of educational content experience coupled with Class.com’s online technical expertise are a perfect match for an online language course.”

“With the release of Spanish 2B, we now offer two full years of Spanish,” said Class.com CEO Katherine Endacott. “It was a great advantage to leverage Holt’s award-winning content and already vast library of multimedia to provide a truly interactive foreign language experience.”

The course’s foundation includes the scope and sequence, activities, audio, and video media from ¡Ven conmigo!. Class.com transformed the content into its own online course by adding more multimedia and giving the course a look unique to Class.com.

According to Class.com Lead Instructional Designer Michelle Kobza, “A foreign language course is rich in interactive media possibilities, and we took advantage of that when designing the course. Videos and audio clips throughout the course enable students to see and hear native speakers, and each unit includes interactive activities to accommodate different learning styles. The activities help build competency in each of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition, the technology allows us to design and build a course in which students will be able to record and listen to their voices at any time as well as send audio files to their teachers for assessment.” For assessment, the course includes self-check activities built into each topic, quizzes at the end of each lesson, and tests at the end of each unit.

“Most high schools require a foreign language, and many colleges require two years of a foreign language; with the release of the Spanish 2B course, now we can provide that in a teacher-facilitated, media-rich online environment,” said Endacott.
