CIBER’s Internet Solution Helps North Carolina University Win Accreditation, Enhance Student Enrollment

August 11, 2000

CIBER, with the expertise of its Internet Services National Practice, teamed up with WSSU’s marketing, public relations and information technology departments to establish standards for its updated web site, making the site interactive, database driven and transactional to automate key administrative processes. CIBER developed the overall architecture and application code and redesigned the site to include all of the university’s schools, departments, faculty and key staff.

“CIBER’s Internet solution helped to streamline many administrative processes at the university, and set a standard that enables a more efficient operation and positions the university for increased funding and enhanced enrollment,” said Rich Pachler, Vice President and National Practice Leader, CIBER. “Students and families are now able to learn more about the university, link to the UNC application process and review the course catalogue among other things, while faculty and staff can use automated web-based business processes for purchasing, human resources and distance-learning education.”

“CIBER’s Internet solution earned the accolades of the accreditation board and Winston Salem is now referred to by SACS as a model for using the web as a tool for presenting SACS reports, documentation and other pertinent information needed by the SACS review teams,” said Dr. Joyce Williams-Green, WSSU’s Chief Information Officer. “We are recommending CIBER to all the schools that call us.”

Several Microsoft tools, including Active Server Pages, factored into making the university’s site more interactive, transactional and dynamic. WSSU also installed a Microsoft Proxy Server onsite that delivers a secure firewall and protects WSSU’s enterprise data from unauthorized access over the Internet.
