Centra’s Web Collaboration Software Enhances Worldwide Communication at Siemens AG

May 29, 2002

LEXINGTON, MA and MUNICH, GERMANY (May 29, 2002) – For a global enterprise employing a workforce of over 460,000, the ability to utilize the corporate network effectively to streamline worldwide communications represents an essential precondition for business success. That’s why Siemens AG opted to implement Centra’s (NASDAQ: CTRA) eLearning and collaboration platform. Today, more than 800 Siemens managers from around the world are using Centra to work together virtually over their corporate network and the Internet. This type of cooperation in cyberspace has considerably enhanced the frequency of meetings and improved the quality of information flow. Using Centra, the team is able to present visual elements such as PowerPoint( charts, statistics and agendas that can be shared by all participants online.

Centra is also helping Siemens AG to accelerate internal decision-making processes by allowing dispersed management teams to create and approve plans at the end of every Centra session, including target agreements that can be implemented without further delay. Siemen’s Management Learning division, one of five units of the central Corporate Personnel unit, is responsible for the development and qualification of management. In five qualification programs with worldwide scope, managers from all corporate functions join forces in Business Improvement Projects, and work on innovations and problem solutions for Siemens and its business activities. Requiring global participation, physical meetings would either be unduly expensive or logistically impossible. Assisted by Centra’s software, management is able to meet more frequently and with greater regularity than before.

In convening their meetings, the participants are completely independent of their given locations. Delays in transmission, a frequent occurrence using international telephone conference calls, are now a thing of the past using Centra’s integrated voice-over-IP. Once a session has been easily set up, everyone joins the online meeting with a simple mouse click.

The implementation of collaboration software was personally advocated and promoted by Dr. Udo Dierk, head of Management Learning at Siemens. “As soon as we had learned about this technology, we immediately searched for the respective providers. A survey conducted by the Gartner Group prompted the decision in favor of Centra. Thanks to the use of this software, we have been able to considerably enhance our productivity, allowing our management discussions to become more intensive through greater focus and concentration on topics at hand. In introducing this software, I was eager to play a pioneering role with regard to my team as well as advancing the integration process throughout the entire enterprise. I am confident that over the near-term the majority of all Siemens managers will be drawing on this software for their collaboration activities as well as for live eLearning.”
