June 30, 2002

SALT LAKE CITY — June 28, 2002 — Campus Pipeline, Inc. today announced general availability of the Campus Pipeline(TM) Luminis(TM) product family, marking an industry milestone in a collaborative venture among Campus Pipeline, leading academic institutions, and industry leaders. The Luminis product family represents a major advancement in portal, content management, enterprise integration, and Web-based services delivery designed to address the unique needs of higher education.

“The Luminis product family helps address some of the most pressing higher education technology challenges,” said Sean Gallagher, analyst at Eduventures. “Enterprise integration and Web content management are two critical issues facing institutions with rapidly evolving and maturing portal needs. The Luminis products are a testament to Campus Pipeline’s commitment to providing standards-based products that enhance productivity, support learning, preserve technology choice, and foster campus community.”

Academic institutions are working hard to meet the online service expectations of their very diverse constituents. They operate in a heterogeneous environment with multiple systems, applications, tools, and technologies that are often very complex and difficult to administer. The Luminis product family is the first flexible software solution of its kind, offering a comprehensive, standards-based infrastructure for unifying and managing these very complicated environments. With the Luminis products, academic enterprises are able to retain choice and control of their digital campuses, and extend the life of valuable technology investments.

Another challenge of many institutions’ disparate technology environments is the often-fractured online experience it creates for students, faculty, staff members, alumni, and other members of the campus community. The Luminis product family delivers a high-touch, user-focused platform for campus information and services that ensures personalized interaction, and improved productivity campus wide.

Preeminent institutions and technology leaders, including Sun Microsystems, Documentum Inc., and the Java in Administration Special Interest Group (JA-SIG), collaborated with Campus Pipeline to deliver the Luminis family of content management, platform, and advanced integration products. Ten innovative colleges and universities joined the Campus Pipeline Pillar Institutions co-development program to help guide the product direction and development: Appalachian State University, Drexel University, Lehigh University, Mississippi State University, Pepperdine University, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, the University of Akron, University College Dublin, the University of Miami, and University of Notre Dame.

“We envision our digital campus to be the central hub for managing the complex network of campus information, courses, and technology applications, so we may provide the best possible online experience for our learners,” said Mark Hoye, manager of software services at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. “Campus Pipeline’s Luminis product family is the key to making our vision a reality. Our involvement through the development and beta process reinforced our confidence in the ability of the Luminis products to provide the infrastructure, integration, and content management capabilities that our institution requires. The final product exceeds our expectations.”

The Luminis product family gives institutions unprecedented freedom to build the unified digital campus that best suits their unique campus environment. Based on open standards, Campus Pipeline products can be integrated with an institution’s choice of student information systems, course management systems, and a wide range of other technologies and applications. Campus Pipeline offers integration solutions for third-party systems including, among others, Blackboard, Datatel, e-College, JA-SIG uPortal, Jenzabar, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Poise, SCT, WebCT, and homegrown applications, enabling an institution to realize its unique vision of a digital campus.
