Call for Proposals — Independent Study: Traditions & Transformations

March 7, 2001

We invite you to submit a proposal for presentation at the ninth annual

American Association for Collegiate Independent Study (AACIS)

conference, to be held November 8-10, 2001 in Athens, Ohio. The

conference is sponsored by Ohio University. Presenters are expected to

pay fees and are encouraged to attend the entire conference.

AACIS is a young, vibrant organization of independent study

professionals. Our membership has grown to nearly 400 in eight years.

Our annual conference provides opportunities for participants to share

insights and experiences with their peers – administrators, advisers,

curriculum developers, faculty, student services personnel, support

staff, and others.

Each year we discuss the classic continuing concerns of independent

study and investigate new developments in the field. We encourage

proposals on topics related to the areas of research and assessment,

operations and student services, curriculum development, editing,

marketing, and administration. Presentations may be made by individuals

or groups, and may use a variety of formats (lecture, panel discussion,

group interaction). Special consideration is given to proposals which

incorporate the conference theme.

For information about our previous conferences, please see the AACIS web

site at http://www.aacis.org/conferences/default.htm .

To propose a presentation:

  1. Provide a short working title.

  2. List presenters and briefly describe their backgrounds, particularly

as they relate to experience with the topic.

  3. Summarize presentation (one or two paragraphs) describing the content

and the objectives you hope to achieve. This summary will be used in

the final program to describe your presentation.

  4. Describe the format, length (30 or 60 minutes), and your equipment

needs. Please specify any needed audiovisual or computer equipment.

  5. Submit your proposal as early as possible to increase its chances of

being accepted. More than one proposal may be submitted but multiple

presentations will only be considered if there is space on the

conference program. We look forward to hearing from you.
