American Public University System Upgrades Learning Program

August 20, 2004

ARLINGTON, Va. – Aug. 19, 2004 – American Public University System has launched a new, comprehensive online student services software system called “Partnership At a Distance” (PAD), built by Internosis, a privately held IT services firm. Conceived by American Public University System and built by Internosis, the Web-based PAD system is aimed at improving the student experience. The University System can now better track – and respond to – student needs, interests and performance. Plus, the system has the scalability and reliability needed to support growing student enrollment.

Internosis developed the multi-million dollar PAD system leveraging its expertise in Microsoft .NET technology.

“Our focus is always on the students – and how to make their learning experience better,” says Wally Boston, chief executive officer for American Public University System, a distance learning institution serving 11,000 adult learners worldwide. “We looked to Internosis to further improve our quality of student service. Internosis came through – helping us at every stage of the project – and delivered just the kind of rich, Web-based system we needed.”

PAD handles the entire delivery, management and tracking of student services. This spans every touch point, from initial contact through to graduation and alumni affairs. Students can view their entire degree path, including current and completed courses, approved transfer credit and any remaining courses they need before graduation, allowing them to more clearly understand where they stand in relation to their academic goals. PAD also logs information, such as schedule changes, class additions and drops that allows the University System to better counsel students.

The multi-year PAD project used key Microsoft technologies. It integrated multiple systems, from front-end Web sites to ASP-based classroom systems – as well as back-office financial systems, both American Public University System-based as well as services provided by partners such as credit card authorization. Among other benefits, PAD will minimize manual transactions and decrease administrative costs.

“We are extremely proud of our work with American Public University System in launching such a rich online university experience in PAD,” said Robert Stalick, chief executive officer of Internosis. “In partnering with them to deliver this solution, we leveraged a diverse skill-set including IT strategy, infrastructure, application development, IT security and managed services. The result was a successful collaboration as the University System completed this important business-driven technology change.”
